FBC Outing to Blandy/Sky Meadows and Stone Bridge

Dear FBC Members,

Our first club outing for 2019 is next Sunday, January 13 to Blandy Experimental Farm, Sky Meadows State Park, and Stone Bridge to look for Short-eared Owls at dusk.
It’s about a 1.5 hour drive from Fredericksburg to Blandy – for those who would like to car pool we’ll depart from the Route 17 commuter lot at 7:30am, for those who wish to drive direct we’ll meet at Blandy at 9:00am.  Please let me know if you would like to car pool and we’ll try to make sure everyone has a ride.
After birding Blandy, we will have lunch at the Lone Oak Tavern, in nearby Boyce.  I currently have 18 signed up for the day and 17 for lunch.  If you change your mind on lunch please let me know so I can change the reservation.
After lunch we’ll stop in at Sky Meadows before driving the short distance to Stone Bridge where we hope to see Short-eared Owls at dusk.  Those who went with us last year will no doubt remember the spectacular show 5 Short-eared Owls put on for us, perched up close on the fence and flying over the fields, against an incredible sunset.  The warm day, and evening, was an added bonus!
Admission to Blandy is free, however donations to the Foundation of the State Arboretum are always welcome.  There is a $5 entrance fee for Sky Meadows SP.  My cell phone is 540 220-7645.
